The Washington Center is the largest independent, nonprofit academic internship program in the country. It brings together exceptional and dedicated college students and civic, governmental and business leaders, hundreds of colleges and universities, scores of public and private host organizations (or internship sites), and more than 50,000 alumni. Tailored internships are secured with the more than 1,000 sites in governmental, international, business and nonprofit organizations. To document, analyze, and reflect on the experience, students complete an internship portfolio. In addition, students select one course from up to 25 evening courses offered each semester. TWC’s LEAD Colloquium offers remarkable programming. Students participate in small group discussion, hear from speakers, visit sites related to their professional interest area, get involved in civic engagement, attend professional development workshops, meet with a member of Congress, and more. TWC’s housing is in shared apartments spread around the area in the District of Columbia. Fully furnished and close to a Metro, each building features air conditioning, a fully equipped kitchen, access to laundry facilities, Internet, local telephone, basic cable service, and secured building access with 24-hour front desk staff. Students share a bathroom and bedroom with one other student.
