Program Description

New York Arts Program
The NYAP is located in a 5-story mid-town Manhattan townhouse in Chelsea, the heart of Manhattan, literally minutes away from Chelsea gallery districts and theatres and one block from Penn Station. Student housing is located in the same building as the program. The furnished apartments normally house 2-3 students each with kitchens and lounges shared among residents.

Students intern 30-40 hours/week as an apprentice to a producing artist or organization within the arts. In addition, the program offers:
•seminars led by NYAP’s core faculty, and a range of other creative professionals
•individual advising by faculty to help define learning goals and explore career options in the arts and creative industries
•participation in a community of students and professionals representing a wide range of interests, skills and backgrounds
•program events designed to encourage interdisciplinary discussion and present a comprehensive view of New York as a global cultural capital
•an independent urban living experience in New York City

A city of more than 8 million people, New York is one of the most powerful cities in the US. Students learn about independent life in a city and learn about the challenges and successes in the daily life of an art professional. Named “the city that never sleeps” it is the cultural center of art, music, theater, politics, media, and history. New York is known for its influence on fashion and entertainment. From its ethnically diverse neighborhoods to monuments like the Statue of Liberty and Empire State building, life in NYC is always exciting.
