Program Description

The sixth largest city of France, Nantes is small enough to allow you to feel at home but large enough to be a bustling cultural and economic center.

As the only permanent American study abroad program in Nantes, IES Abroad Nantes offers ample opportunity to practice French. IES Abroad's close relationship with the Université de Nantes provides many opportunities for meeting “Nantais” of all ages in homestays, at the University, or in extracurricular activities such as university clubs for sports, music, dance, or theater.

The IES Abroad Nantes Center occupies two floors of a gorgeous 19th century residential building. It is conveniently located just steps from the historic center of Nantes and the Passage Pommeraye—a narrow passageway of galleries that fills three levels and is covered by a canopied glass ceiling.

All courses are taught in French. Course offerings include art history, French language, literature, political science, religious studies, sociology, theatre, and more. All students have the option of enrolling in courses both at the IES Center and at the Université de Nantes.
