Program Description

Located on the broad Wilhelmshöher Allee near the gates of the old city, Europa Kolleg, Kassel e.V offers a truly international setting. Europa Kolleg is a language institute that provides instruction in German language and culture to students from around the world. Alma College students have been attending this program taught in German since 1982. Completion of two semesters of college-level German is required for semester participants; no language requirement is necessary for summer enrollment.

Homestays offer students the opportunity to live, interact and build a relationship with their German host family that provides breakfast, dinner, weekend lunches, and a private room.

Kassel - 1,000 years old - lies in the middle of Germany between Frankfurt and Hanover. With 200,000 inhabitants, Kassel is large enough for a host of different activities, yet small enough for people to feel at home. Kassel is the city of the Grimm brothers who gained world fame with their fairy stories. As the landgrave´s librarians, they also discovered here Germany´s oldest literary work, the "Song of Hildebrand". Every five years, the largest international exhibition of contemporary art - the "documenta" - is held in Kassel. Kassel is well known for its parks, castles, statues, waterfalls and lakes. If looking for relaxation, take advantage of the extensive health resort programs and sports facilities for everything from water sports to golf to skydiving.
