Washington D.C. is the center of U.S. government, politics, and numerous nonprofit organizations. This makes it the perfect place for an internship in almost any field. Through the American University Washington D.C. program, students gain an advantage with professional experience in the national’s capital, and engage with leaders and decision makers – one on one – through interactive seminars. SEMESTER PROGRAM American University’s Washington Semester program has three components: an 8 credit seminar three days/week, a 4 credit internship, and a 3-4 credit elective AU course. Student choose from a variety of program emphases including American Politics, Contemporary Islam, Economic Policy, Foreign Policy, International Business, International Environment & Development, International Law & Organizations, Journalism, Public Law, Peace & Conflict Resolution, and Transforming Communities. Internship positions are available online prior to the semester, and students interview during the first two weeks. Students attend seminars three days a week for 3 AU credits, intern four and a half days/week, and have the option to complete a research paper for 3 AU Credits. HOUSING Students are housed in dorms located on AU’s Tenley Campus, a half mile from the main campus and two blocks from the Tenleytown-AU Metro Stop. These residences provide computer labs, study areas, reading rooms, and a dining room. A University Shuttle provides transportation between main campus, Tenley Campus, and the Metro. WASHINGTON D.C. Over 5 million people live in the Washington Metropolitan Area, including individuals from all over the world.
